The transition into adulthood can be complicated for all young people - but will often be much more challenging for young carers.
A very recent study has found there are approximately 300,000 young adult carers in the UK aged between 16
and 24. Sixty-one thousand of these are in transition between child and adult statutory services and benefits,
and 229,000 are young adults elegible for adult services.
Nearly a quarter of both groups can spend up to 20 hours a week caring, and 7% and 12% respectively care for up to 50 hours per week.
It's clear that balancing the need for wanting more independence while continuing to carry out their caring
role is going to be a very difficult transition for many young carers.
Telford and Wrekin Young Carers know from experience that young adult carers need specific support during this time to help them on the way to reaching their full potential and to have fulfilling adult lives.
